Anne was a completely normal high school girl until she found a magical flute at Band Camp, and was imbued with the awesome mystical powers --- better than a witch, she became the Wotch. She has since been learning to use and control them with the help of her friends, but her lack of experience has been the cause of many crazy events in Tandy Gardens.
At first, she tried to hide her secret from everyone except Evan/Lilly, her older brother/younger sister. However, Jason Grey, initially obsessed with redhead Anne, inadvertently saw her float a pencil to her hand while stalking her. Since then, she's let her secret be known to her best friends Robin Ericson and Jason, and to [spoiler...]Angelique the djinn, to Milo Happerbasket, who runs "the Magic Touch" store, to her friends Katie, Wolfie, Ming, James, and Irene, and to Ally Taverner, who runs "Taverner's Market", and to Ally's boyfriend Joe. Miranda West, who was the previous Wotch, has cautioned her against revealing her secret further. [...hide spoiler]
However, the true meaning of her Wotch heritage is still unknown to her.
Anne lives with her brother, Evan, and her cat, Maki. Her parents are presently traveling around the world, and have not yet appeared in the comic except for a picture of them on the wall.

[edit] Spells and Other Abilities
After she received the powers of the Wotch, Anne spent some time studying magic, and taught herself several basic spells. More recently, she [spoiler...]has been learning more advanced spells from Miranda West, the previous Wotch. [...hide spoiler]
Some of Anne's most notable abilities are listed below:
- Gender-changing spell, popularly known as the "Ka-Girl" spell, which she uses frequently on Robin and Jason
- Teleportation spell
- Catgirl spell, which she used during Abra-cat-dabra and Moon Over Tandy
- Confinos, which seals other people or objects inside a bubble
Numerous other spells have been used, and many seem to involve mixtures of Latin and Greek words or have been loosely inspired by spells in the Harry Potter universe.

Transformations are a major theme of the Wotch comic, and Anne is no exception, being the source of many that have happened to other characters. She has herself also been transformed many times. The most notable forms are listed below:
[edit] Nightgirl
During Comic Relief, Anne attempted to change herself into a comic-book character. Imagining herself as Batgirl, she transformed into Nightgirl, a similar form that would not invoke the wrath of the Lawsuit Gods. Anne has since appeared as in the comic as Nightgirl several times, but mostly in her imagination.
[edit] Anne's Personality Shards
During the SchizophrANNEia storyline, [spoiler...]Anne split herself into dozens of clones, each one a different shard (aspect) of her personality. This has caused no end of trouble for Anne, as the shards have often resurfaced (such as during the D.O.L.L.Y. storyline), and some didn't rejoin with her until much later in the story. Anne-ger is the popular name given to [spoiler...]a shard of Anne's personality that was created during SchizophrANNEia. Anne's "anger" decided to separate herself from Anne permanently, and fought in the high school gymnasium to maintain her independence. Anne won the battle, but Anne-ger escaped during the D.O.L.L.Y. storyline and fought with Anne again. Anne-ger was again defeated, but she remains an uncontrollable wildcard in the story, and may appear again. [...hide spoiler]

- Anne seems to have a crush on the adult version of Link from the Zelda series.
- Anne usually wears a pink t-shirt and a purple skirt.
- It has been hinted at that she wears Wonder Woman underpants.
