FAQ:Web site

From Wotchipedia

If you have questions about the site, like how it's managed or who's responsible for fixing problems with it, this is the place to look.

  1. Who runs the web site?
Robin Ericson and Thom Khatt, with some help from Mysti Madison and Phantom Inker. Again, others may help out from time to time; see the credits page for a complete list.

  2. What's with the "donation" stuff? Didn't this comic used to be free?
We had to make some changes to ensure that the comic can stay running. Anne is now officially employed by us, the readers, to draw the Wotch: this is her only paying job. That's good, because it means she can put a lot of her time to it. However, that also means that we need to donate money regularly to ensure that it remains a paying job. It's either donations, or Anne has to get a "real" job to cover her grad-school costs, and then can't spend her time on this. You're not required to donate. But if you think the Wotch is something good, something worth continuing, we would surely appreciate it if you dropped a buck or two into the donations box so that it really can continue.

  3. Can you put up a link to my web comic on your links page?
If you want us to link to you, send us your link and if we find we enjoy your comic and are still checking after a while, we'll link to you. Otherwise, we wish you the best of luck!

  4. I see you host some other webcomics at the Wotch site too. Will you host my webcomic? Will you host a forum for my webcomic?
If you would like to have a forum for your webcomic here, ask Robin. We will generally be happy to provide a forum for your webcomic if you want one. However, we are limiting hosting only to close friends of the Wotch at this time.

  5. I think I found a missing comic or a glitch in the web site! Who do I tell?
Please contact Robin directly, via e-mail, a via private message in the forum, or over YIM (contact information here). We take these kinds of errors seriously, so if you find one, be sure to tell us. But please don't start a thread in the forum about it; we don't broadcast your mistakes to the world, so please don't do the same for ours.

  6. Where did you get your web site software? Can I use it for my comic?
We wrote the comic-management software ourselves, after years of letting Robin post HTML directly to the site. Mysti Madison did a lot of the early work, and Phantom Inker upgraded Mysti's design and wrote most of the PHP code we use today. The plan is to eventually release that under an open-source license, but it's not really ready for a public release yet. Our forum, which was run under phpBB for a couple of years, has been Invision Power Board for over a year now. This wiki is run by MediaWiki. Our server runs Linux, Apache, and MySQL.
