Ivan is aspiring to be a great reporter, even in his High School newspaper. He is the editor-in-chief of the Tandy Gardens High School Newspaper. With all the insane happenings as of late, he's been working overtime! A friend of Anne's, Ivan is always so close, yet so far, when it comes to breaking the story of the century.

Ivan also has a small team of paranormal investigators, current members being Scott Winters, his girlfriend Julie, and Jason Grey (who is there for the sole purpose of sabotaging their progress).

However, as of the D.O.L.L.Y. arc, [spoiler...]Ivan appears to have finally seen Anne and her friends in action, although they are unaware of this. [...hide spoiler] Since then, [spoiler...]he has been confirmed as an eyewitness of Anne's abilities, with photographic proof, no less - but, beginning to understand the scope of the situation, he is also stymied as to what to do with this information until he uncovers the rest. At The end of Comic Relief, Ivan mentions having a cousin in Moperville, the setting of El Goonish Shive. This is likely to be little more than an allusion, as the Sunday Specials have confirmed that El Goonish Shive and The Wotch take place in different universes.
