Mary has faced a great deal of teasing over her intellect and "nerdiness" over the years. Instead of trying to supplant the label applied to her by her classmates like her friend Sharon Ellison or being buried by it like her friend Willow Reid she has embraced her label of nerd, transcending it to become a sort of Alpha-Nerd of TGHS. Mary quite probably has the highest IQ at the school, dabbles in a bit of the ole' super-science (nothing big, just a dimension-bending-pie-hurling machine or so) and pointedly ignores anyone who doesn't fit the equation of how she wants things to be.
